Setting Permissions from Element Editors
On any element Editor, an Administrator can use the Permissions button on the Advanced tab to open the Element Permissions page to view, add or delete the Groups and Users that have permission to access the element. Alternatively, you could use Determine the Elements a User can access
Only Administrators may grant access to elements.
NOTE: The format of element Editor is slightly different for versions prior to 5.0.
1. Metric Editor > Advanced tab
- Open the Advanced tab
- Click Permission
2. The 'Element Permissions' pop-up displays
Each section of the pop-up is described in the substeps below.
2.1. Adding element access to a Group
2.2. Determine if the Group has access to the Element's Category
- This section contains a display-only Groups grid that lists Groups whose members have permission to access the Category to which the Element is assigned. This means that members of the specified Group can view this element by virtue of having access to all elements within the Category.
- If a Group has Edit Access to the Category, the Conditional Edit? column is set to 'Y' value
See also Granting Group Access to Categories for more information.
2.3. Add Access to a User
2.4. Determine if the User has access to the Element's Category
This section contains a display-only Users grid that lists those users with Permission to access the Category to which the element is assigned. The listed Users can view this element by virtue of having access to all Elements within the Category and a Power User may also have been granted Edit Access to this Category.
In the example above, no Users have access to the sample Category
See Granting User Access to Categories for more information.
2.5. Review User Access
This section provides the Users grid that contains all Users with View or Edit Access Permission to this element. The grid is automatically refreshed after each SAVE of a newly added Group or User and contains both Group members that inherited their Permission as well as those directly granted access, either on this pop-up or on the User Editor.
