[User Access] Checklist for granting Edit Access to an Element (Prior to Version 5.2.1 )

When an individual Power User is directly granted Edit Access to an element from the User's or the element's Editor, the Power automatically receives Use Access to the element's Configurable Data Source and the ability to grant element View or Edit access to Groups to which the Power User belongs and other members of those Groups.

In order to obtain full Edit Access to an Element, make sure that the Power User has the other required Privileges and Permissions.  Reference the following sections covering Category, Data Collection Trigger, Non-Configurable Data Source and Dimension  requirements:

  1. Edit Access to the element's Category
  2. Edit Access to at least one Data Collection Trigger if changes are made the element's existing Trigger
  3. Dataset-related Privileges and Permissions
  4. If the element does not use a Congigurable Data Source, access to its Non-configurable Data Source Privilege and source element Permissions
    • Privilege to Create Content using  CSV file
    • Privilege to Create Content using Existing Metrics and Single Report as well as access to the source element(s)
    • Privilege to Create Content using Existing Reports

4.  Access to the Dimension and at least one Dimension Value if the element is Dimensioned

1. Element Sourced from a Configurable Data Source (SQL / Plugin)

If the element is sourced from a SQL database or Plugin, the Power User is automatically granted Permission to use the element’s Data Source.

To learn more about Configurable Data Sources, refer to: Understanding Data Sources.

2. Edit Access to the element's Category

In order to Edit an element, the Power User must have been granted  or inherited Edit Access to the Category in which the element resides.  This Edit Access can be granted from the User Editor > Elements tab or from the Category Editor > Permissions Button

3. Access to change the element's Data Collection Trigger

In order to Edit an Element, a Power User does not require access to the element's Data Collection Trigger.  The Power User may only change the element's Trigger if he has Use or Edit Access to another Trigger or creates a new Trigger.

4. Elements sourced from Datasets

4.1. Dataset-related Privileges

Power User must have the following Privileges:

  • Create content using Datasets
  • Create Dataset

To assign these privileges to the Power User:

  1. Open the User Editor > Info tab
  2. In the Privileges section click [+ Privilege to User]. The pop-up opens.
  3. Select required Privileges from the list

Save your selection to confirm your action.

4.2. Dataset Data Access

Power User must have View Access to the source Dataset:

To grant a Power User at least View Access to the Dataset:

  1. Access the User Editor > Datasets tab
  2. Click [+ Dataset access to User]. The Add Dataset Access to User pop-up opens.
  3. Choose the required Dataset from the Name field
  4. Set Power User can edit dataset to 'no' since only View Access is required; however, Edit Access may be granted, giving the Power User Access to all data in the source Dataset even if a User Map has been applied.

Save your selection to confirm your action.

4.3. Source Dataset with User Map

This requirement is relevant only if an User Map is applied to a Dataset.

The Power User must either have:

  1. Edit Access to the Dataset, thus receiving access to all Dataset's Data
  2. At least one entry in any related User Map for this Power User

For more details refer to: Create an User Map and Apply an User Map to a Dataset.

5. Non-configurable Data Source requirements

A non-configuable Data Source may require a Privilege and/or Permissions to make it possible for the Power User to edit the related element.

To learn about the nature of Non-Configurable Data Sources, refer to: Understanding Data Sources.

5.1. CSV file

Power User must have the following Privileges if the element is sourced from a CSV file or entered manually:

  • Create content using CSV files

To assign these privileges to a User:

  1. Open the User Editor > Info tab
  2. In the Privileges section click [+ Privilege to User]. The pop-up opens.
  3. Select required Privileges from the list

Save your selection to confirm your action.

5.2. Existing Metrics and Reports

If the element is sourced from one of the following, the Power User must have its Privileges and/or Permissions as described below:

Existing Metrics

  • Privilege granted on the User Editor: Create content using Existing Metrics
  • Power User will automatically be granted View Access to the source Metric(s).

Existing Reports:

  • Privilege granted on the User Editor: Create content using Existing Reports
  • Power User is not required to have View Access to the source Report(s).

Single Existing Report:

  • Privilege granted on the User Editor: Create content using Single Existing Report
  • Power User must have View access to the source Report given at User Editor > Elements tab > [+ Element access to User].

Aggregate Metric

  • No Privilege is required.
  • Power User will automatically be granted View Access to the source Metric.

Multi-Metric:

  • No Privilege is required.
  • Power User will automatically be granted View Access to the source Metric(s).

6. Dimensioned Elements

If the element is dimensioned, the Power User must be granted View access to at least one Dimension Value of the Dimension associated with the element or to all Dimension Values. Note: If Edit access is given to one dimension, Power User will get View access to all dimensions.

7. View Access Requirements for any Regular or Power User

In order for a user to receive View Access to an element, the following Permissions are required:

  1. If the element's Data Source is a Dataset: Permissions to View the source Dataset, granted at Dataset Editor > Advanced tab > Permission
    • If a User Map is applied to a Dataset, iat least one entry for each Group Regular User must be included in the User Map associated with the Dataset.
  2. If the element is a Multi-Metric, Aggregate or a Composite Element: Permission to View source component elements.
  3. If element is Dimensioned: access to at least one Dimension Value of the Dimension associated with the element or to the whole Dimension.
  4. View Access to the element's Category
