[Group Access] Grant (View / Edit) Access to a Dataset with a User Map

Administrators have the responsibility to grant access to a Datasets to User Groups. Two types of Group access to a Dataset is available in Metric Insights:

  1. View Access.  Group members can access Datasets and elements sourced from this Dataset.  If an assigned element is dimensioned, Users of the Group must also be granted Dimension access.
  2. Edit Access. The Permission is inherited by the Group's Power Users only. However, there are certain additional Privileges that should be granted to the Group.

You can grant a Group view or edit access to a Dataset from 2 places in the system:

  • Dataset Editor
  • Group Editor

NOTE: Both options are described in this article.

1. Access Group OR Dataset Editor

Group Editor
  1. Access Admin > Groups > choose a required Group from the list > open a Group Editor > Datasets tab
  2. In the Datasets sections click [+Dataset access to Group]. The pop-up opens.
  3. Category: Optional. You can limit the choice of Datasets by selecting a specific Category it belongs to. By default, "ALL" Categories are selected in this field.
  4. Name: Choose the Dataset to which the access should be given.

Next: Choose the type of access you want to grant (View or Edit) and follow instructions in Step 2.

Datset Editor
  1. Access Admin > Datasets > choose Dataset from the list > open Dataset Editor > Advanced tab
  2. Click Permissions. The pop-up opens. Click [+Dataset access to Group].
  3. In the opened pop-up select a Group from the drop-down list.

Next: Choose the type of access you want to grant (View or Edit) and follow instructions in Step 2.

2. Grant Group Members View OR Edit Access to the Dataset

[Option 1] View Access Checklist
  1. Grant conditional edit permission to Power User members: select 'no'.
  2. Save your entries.

Next: If a User map is applied to this Dataset, see Step 3. If no User Map is applied to this Dataset, View access has been granted to all Group members. No further actions are required.

[Option 2] Edit Access Checklist
  1. Grant conditional edit permission to Power User members: select 'yes'.
  2. Save your entries.

NOTE: Edit can be  granted to Power Users only. Regular Users have no available Privileges for editing system elements - they are essentially content consumers.

Next:

  • Grant access to the Dataset's Data Source.
  • If a User map is applied to this Dataset, see Step 3.

Grant access to the Data Source of this Dataset

If the Data Source is SQL / Plugin

If the Data Source of a Dataset is a SQL Database or Plugin connection Profile, you should add a Permission to use this Data Source in its Editor.

  1. Access Dataset Editor > Data tab
  2. In the Data Source field click the Gear icon. You are going to be redirected to the Data Source Editor
  3. At the upper right corner of the Data Source Editor click Permissions. The pop-up opens.
  4. Click [+New Group to Data Source]. In the opened pop-up choose a Group from the drop-down list.
If the Data Source is CSV file

If the Data Source is CSV file, you should add a Privilage to use this kind of Data Source to a Group.

  1. Access a Group Editor:  Admin > Groups > choose a required Group from the list > open a Group Editor > Info tab
  2. In the Assigned Privilege section click [+Privilege to a Group]
  3. Choose Create content using CSV Files Privilege

3. Optional. If a User Map is applied to a Dataset

Add Group members (Regular and Power Users) to a User Map

  3. At the upper right corner of the screen click the Gear icon to access the User Map Editor.
  4. Access User Map Editor > Data tab. Add those Users, who are members of the Group to this User Map and define what data they should have acces to.

Tip: How do I know whether a User Map is applied to a Dataset?

Access Dataset Editor > Access tab

Access mode:

  • user has access to all rows: no User map has been applied to a Dataset. To learn how to do it, refer to: Create a User Map and Apply a User Map to a Dataset
  • only specified rows: a User map was applied to this Dataset. To go to a User Map Editor (for example, to add more Users), click an Eye icon in the User Map field below.
