Create External Report from Google Data Studio

This article details how to create External Report from Google Data Studio.

PREREQUISITES:

Established connectivity with Google Data Studio plugin

1. Create New External Report

Access New > External Report > Google Data Studio

  1. Enter a descriptive phrase in Name
  2. Specify Category where External Report will be placed
  3. Define whether content has to be updated manually or automatically
    • For "Automatically Collected", specify Report Image Trigger 
  4. Choose Superset Plugin Connection Profile 
  5. Select Report (Object) for External Report
  6. [Next: Define Details]

2. Specify Required Parameters

  1. Show Report in defaults to "External Webpage".
    • For "Viewer", select Show "In iframe" or "As static image" option
      • NOTE: When opting to display your Report:
        • In iframe, make sure to enable embedding for the report in Google Data Studio. See details below.
        • As a Static Image, make sure to Collect Image before going to Viewer.
  2. Select URL template, based on which the External Report URL will be generated
  3. Optionally, [Edit URL] to modify the URL by appending a question mark (?) followed by any filter or parameter settings
  4. Optionally, use [Test External Report] to test how your Report will be displayed on External Webpage or in Viewer, depending on the display option selected in the previous step
  5. Select Report Image option:
    • "Always collect all instances of external report": Collect all images and cache them on a schedule
    • "On Demand: only when needed for distribution": Individual images are only collected when they need to be included in an email
3. Enabling Embed Report
  1. Access File (or Share drop-down) > Embed report
  2. Check Enable embedding and click [DONE]

4. Collect Image and Publish

Google Data Studio Plugin collects images by taking screenshots of them in the Chromium browser.

  1. [Collect Image]
    • NOTE: To successfully collect image, view access must be enabled for the report in Google Data Studio. See details below.
  2. [Enable & Publish] to proceed to Viewer
5. Enabling View Access
  1. Access Share drop-down > Invite people
  2. Go to Manage access tab
  3. Set Link sharing to Anyone with the link can view and [Save]
