Tableau Reports: Distribution and Sharing

Metric Insights allows several ways to distribute Tableau Reports:

  • as payload for Alerts
  • via Bursts that go on Schedule
  • as External Visualization of Reports
1. Sending a Report as an Alert payload

The starting point for Alert generation is always a Metric.  Once you create a Metric to trigger Alerts, you can perform additional functions.  

The whole process comprises:

  1. Building a Metric
  2. Configuring an Alert Rule
  3. Adding a Tableau Report to an Alert payload

1.1. Build a Metric

In order to build a Metric:

  1. Go to New > Metric > Create New
  2. Configure the Settings

1.2. Create an Alert Rule

  1. Click the [Alert icon]
  2. Access Alert Creation Wizard
  3. Define your Alert type and criteria
  4. Go to Step 3 (Content)
  5. From Send with the Alert dropdown, select Other element

1.3. Add a Tableau Report to an payload

  1. Chose the element from the dropdown.
  2. Preview the Alert message to make sure it contains the required Tableau Report.
2. Bursting a Tableau Report
  1. Go to New > Burst to open the Burst Editor.
  2. Click [+Add Tiles]. In the pop-up that appears, select a Tableau Report.
  3. Specify the Schedule and Delivery Method for your Burst.
  4. After verifying all settings, [Save & Enable].
  5. If you need to test the Burst layout, click [Send now].

You can also embed the Tableau Report as Visualization in the Regular Report.

  1. Go to Report Editor > Report Content tab.
  2. Select the Tableau Report you want to include as External Visualization.
  3. Verify the rest of the settings.
