Talk to Your Data, introduced in v7.2.1, enables Users to ask analytical questions in plain language directly within an External Report in Metric Insights. Answers are generated in the context of the filters currently applied to the Report, allowing Users to uncover comparisons, anomalies, and dimensional breakdowns that standard filters and slicers can't provide on their own. Responses are displayed inline alongside the Report for a seamless analytical experience.
Use this step-by-step Playbook to implement Talk to Your Data on your MI instance.
1. Access an LLM Service Provider
Talk to Your Data is a part of Concierge Conversation Analytic feature, which requires a Large Language Model (LLM) service provider in order to operate. You must first select and gain access to one of the following supported models:
- OpenAI models starting from GPT-5 family onward
- OpenAI GPT-5.5 model is a recommended model for Concierge
- Google Gemini Pro models
- Anthropic Claude Sonnet or Opus
- Other models with comparable reasoning capabilities supporting OpenAI chat completions API
You also have the option to use a local LLM.
2. Enable and Configure Concierge
Concierge is a chatbot embedded within the Metric Insights platform, designed to help Users navigate the platform, locate objects, and resolve questions regarding platform functionality. Concierge leverages AI to enable Users to submit any question about Metric Insights and receive a concise, accurate response accompanied by links to relevant documentation for further detail.

3. Enable Talk to Your Data Feature
Currently, the Talk to Your Data feature supports Tableau and Microsoft Power BI External Reports exclusively. Support for additional platforms will be introduced as the feature continues to evolve.
The Talk to Your Data feature enables Users to ask questions about any details within a Report, interact with data available in the underlying model, and obtain answers without the need to build a new Report. Responses are derived exclusively from certified data—rather than raw or ungoverned sources—ensuring a high degree of reliability and trust.

4. Internationalize Queries
Concierge's language support extends beyond English. Users can submit queries and interact with their data in a variety of additional languages.
