Overview of Global Filters (Sticky Filters)

New in 6.3.2, Global Filtering was implemented to automatically "remember" and apply Filter and Dimension values across Element Viewers. As you view Elements and set Dimensions or Filters, these same values will be applied to subsequently viewed elements without having to repeat these settings.

1. Verify Your Filter is ON

Access: User Menu -> My settings -> scroll to bottom of screen

My Settings - Google Chrome
  1. Verify that the toggle is on for "Remember my filter selections across tiles" (system default value)
  2. [Save]

2. How the Filter Works

2.1. Set Filters/Dimensions on any Element Viewer

External Report: Tableau_External_Report - Google Chrome
  1. Set Channel to Corporate Sales
  2. Set Country to Germany
  3. Set Product Category to wine
  4. [Apply Filters]

Note: Dimensions set on Viewers do not require that they be Applied before being set on your Global Filter

2.2. View Another Element with some/all of the Same Filters/Dimensions

Access: Content -> Elements -> Name of Element link  -> View from the Editor

Chart: Germany corporate sales Daily Sales - Google Chrome

This Metric is dimensioned by Country and Channel (but not Product), so those two Dimensions are populated with same Filter Names and  Values selected in Step 2.1

2.3. View Another Element with some/all of the Same Filters/Dimensions

Access: Content -> Elements -> Name of Element link  -> View from the Editor

Chart: Germany | wine | Monthly Sales - Google Chrome

For this Report, Metric Insights is able to match  two  different Filters (Country/Product) and will populate them with Filters/Values saved in Step 2.1

2.4. Effect of Changes Made on Subsequent Element Views

Chart: France | wine | Monthly Sales - Google Chrome
  1. The Country Dimension was changed/viewed in the Metric Monthly Sales
  2. Subsequent Viewing of Tableau External Report will apply the new Dimension Value for Country but will retain the Channel and Product Values as originally set in Step 2.1
