When setting up a connection between Collibra and Metric Insights, it is important to properly introduce all the Metadata from Collibra database to the MI interface.
This article describes in details all the steps that need to be performed to sync Collibra Metadata with Metric Insights Objects.
1. Establish Connectivity
All the external BI tools are represented in Metric Insights by Data Sources. So, you have create a Data Source using Collibra plugin.
However, before proceeding with this step, it is important to choose how Metric Insights will authenticate within Collibra to receive necessary data. There are three options:
- Password: In this case, the authentication will be performed using the Username and Password that is used to enter the Collibra account.
- Identity Profile: Identity Profiles allow storing user credentials outside of MI application using various security access and management tools. For more information about them, check Overview of Identity Profiles article.
- Service Principal: In this case, the administrator of the Collibra account has to create a Service Principal and use it for authentication purposes. This means, that the Client ID and Secret have to be provided for Metric Insights to receive access.
After selecting the authentication type, create a Collibra Data Source, using corresponding auth credentials.
2. Collect the Data
To collect data from Collibra and bring it to Metric Insights, you have to create a Dataset.
Make sure that Dataset contain the following columns:
- Report ID;
- Glossary Term;
- Section;
- Definition;
- Owner;
- There also has to be a column for each other metadata field that has to be synchronized with Metric Insights.
3. Import Glossary
In this step you are going to bring Glossary terms from Collibra to Metric Insights via Autoimport functionality.
Use the Dataset, created in Step 2, to Automatically Import Glossary Terms.
4. Synchronize Glossary with Elements
Glossary Autosync allows synchronization of Glossary Terms you brought in Step 3 with Metric Insights Elements. To accomplish this, create a Dataset to pair Elements to Glossary Terms and use it for Glossary Autosync. The system will look up the Element by its ID and "tag" it with the corresponding Glossary Term, making the definition visible on the report tile.
5. Create Custom Fields
For every Metadata column that is not related to Glossary, you will have to create a separate Custom Field. Those are needed to contain metadata and will be paired with metadata columns later, for Auto Synchronization.
6. Synchronize Metadata with Custom Fields
Custom Field Autosync allows updating of Custom Field values based on Dataset information, whenever the Dataset is updated.
using the Dataset, created in Step 2, synchronize the Collibra Metadata columns with Metric Insights Custom Fields.
