Bulk Change Security

Many objects within Metric Insights have a "Bulk Change" capability that allows the update of selected settings within designated objects chosen on the related object's List Page.

Any Admin may perform this function on any object that has a Bulk Change capability.  Power Users may only Bulk Change objects to which the user has Edit Access.  Their selection of the "change to" value for an object is limited to corresponding objects to which the Power User has Edit Access.  The one exception:  If the Power User has the Privilege to assign a Category with only View Access, those Categories would be included in the "change to:" drop-down list.

Some Bulk Change settings have "fixed" values.  There are no limits on a Power User's ability to change these fields; e.g., Enable/Disable, although the requirement that a Power User has Edit Access to the objects being changed still applies.

In Release 6.3.1, additional fields can be updated via Bulk Change:

  • External Report Type
  • URL Template

1. Example of Fixed Value Change

In the example above, on the Bursts List Page,  several Bursts are selected for "Enabled/Disabled" status to be updated.

Security:  A Power User may perform this type of Bulk Change on any object to which the user has Edit Access if the capability exists for that object.

2. Example of Bulk Change to Object Owner

2.1. Power User Access of Bulk Change secured settings

The example below shows a Power User Bulk changing Category

The Power User "blrpowx" has access to the Categories shown above.

2.2. Select objects for Bulk Change of Category

2.3. Make the Change

  1. Select the Field to be changed
  2. Choose the new value
  3. Security Applied: Note that only the Categories to which the Power User has View or Edit Access appear in the list.  This Power User has the Privilege "Assign Category with View Access to Elements/Datasets"; therefore, the user may choose to assign the "HR" Category to which this person only has View Access.

3.2. Change Ownership or Responsibility Fields

The example below shows how a Power User would be able to change the Technical Owner of elements selected on the Element List Page.  This would allow multiple elements' Technical Owner to be changed at the same time.

  • Without Extended Security for granting Permission to the object, a  PU can change the  Technical Owner to any Admin or to PU members of Groups to which PU belongs or has Edit Access
  • With Extended Security, a PU change select ANY PU or Admin

Regular Users may be selected for Business Owner, but not Technical Owner.

  1. [Bulk Change]
  2. Choose field to be changed on the element;  i.e., Technical Owner
  3. Choose new user to be the Technical Owner
