Granting Power User Access to Custom Field Section

In Metric Insights, Power Users have to be granted specific Privileges and Permissions to be able to edit a Custom Field Section. This article describes the steps an Administrator should take to give the Power User Edit access to a Custom Field Section.

Granting Edit Access

Edit Access permits the Power User to see the Custom Field Sections entry in the Admin menu, open the Custom Field Sections list and enter the Custom Field Section Editor to customize it.

A Power User can get access to a Custom Field Section individually or inherit it from the Group he/she is a member of. For more details about granting Access to the Group, check the Assigning Privileges and Permissions to the Group article.

1. Assign a "Create Custom Field Sections" Privilege

Access Admin > Users & Groups and click on the PU's Active Name link to open the User Editor

NOTE: "Create Custom Field Sections" Privilege can be a part of a Privilege Set. Assigning Privilege Sets rather than specific Privileges is recommended in Metric Insights, so check the Privileges List at the bottom of the page. If the "Create Custom Field Sections" Privilege is not in the list, proceed with this step.

  1. On the Info tab scroll the page to the Privileges section
  2. [+Privilege To User]
  3. Filter the list by "custom field"
  4. Find the "Create Custom Field Sections" Privilege and select the checkbox
  5. [Save]
2. Assign Permission to the Custom Field Section

This permission can be granted from the Custom Field Section Editor and from the User Editor.

Assign Permission from Custom Field Section Editor

Access Admin > Reference Object > Custom Fields > Sections tab and click the necessary Custom Field Section Active Name Link to open the Editor

  1. [Permissions]
  2. [+Power User Edit Access To Custom Field Section]
  3. User: Select the Power User to whom access is granted
  4. [Save]
  5. [Close]
Assign Permission from User Editor

Access Admin > Users & Groups and click on the PU's Active Name link to open the User Editor

  1. Go to the Power Users tab
  2. [+Custom Field Section Edit Access To User]
  3. Custom Field Section: Select the Custom Field Section from the dropdown menu
  4. [Save]

Granting "Allow Power Users to grant Custom Field Section access to any User or Group" Privilege

By default, Power Users who have access to the Custom Field Section can grant it to other PU's, but it's limited to the Users that are members of the same Group. The Administrator can allow the Power User to grant access to the Custom Field Section to any PU or Group by assigning the Allow Power Users to grant Custom Field Section Edit Access to any Power User or Group Privilege.

Access Admin > Users & Groups and click on the PU's Active Name link to open the User Editor

  1. On the Info tab scroll the page to the Privileges section
  2. [+Privilege To User]
  3. Filter the list by "custom field"
  4. Find the "Allow Power Users to grant Custom Field Section Edit Access to any Power User or Group" Privilege and select the checkbox
  5. [Save]
